FGS Webinar - Your Society's Next Generation: Reaching Out to New Communities
Space is limited.
Reserve your Webinar seat now at:

In today’s world, a vast community of supporters for your genealogical society might fall outside the standard definition of “genealogists.” Learn how to work with historians, archivists, government officials, librarians, youth, and others to enhance your society’s meetings, publications, and overall success.
Focusing on the resources of the FGS Outreach Committee, this lecture is specifically geared towards Society officers seeking to expand their membership and their societies’ activities. The lecture will begin with an introduction of the various communities (including historians, archivists, librarians, government, and youth) that a genealogical society can perform outreach activities towards, focusing on specific success stories from FGS member societies. The lecture will then focus on methods for developing outreach plans, and implementing them within a genealogical society. Attention will be spent towards developing lectures, newsletter items, and other functions to bring in members “outside’ the genealogical community.

- A great session - exciting, informative, interactive. Geoff is a wonderful presenter. It's so useful to hear him deliberate about information puzzles and sources and 'think out loud' about the data entry process.
- Absolutely brilliant Geoff. So many light-bulb moments for me and the additional questions I had in my mind as you progressed were resolved for me by student's questions.
- Great webinar! Love seeing real-life situations and learning how I can apply the techniques to my own work.
- Great Webinar! Learn a lot just watching Geoff or other presenters "do" in action. Instills ideas of how some collateral things can be done differently - Picture folders, organization of Sources, etc. Very easy to watch and hold attention. Kudoes to Geoff for doing new things, live.
- I loved the presentation and I learned so much. I watched the webinar on adding a death certificate just prior to this one; it, too, was excellent. I am just beginning to use Legacy software, and I am so grateful for the training CDs and webinars. I have watched the training CDs more than once, and these webinars are great help in reinforcing and developing the techniques. Thank you!
- I really appreciate the informal presentation - learn so many things beyond adding a marriage record.
- Although it's focused on adding a single type of record, the steps involved cover many things: master source lists, research notes, adding relationships, clipboard, etc. The webinars make everything fall in place because Geoff explains his thought process & reasons for the steps. It's great we can ask questions & add comments live.
- This type of presentation is invaluable. Its great to see someone actually enter their data to learn the process of getting the most out of the information included in documents as well as utilizing Legacy Family Tree to the utmost!
- Wow ... this was EXCELLENT INFO. I have been using Legacy for the past four years and learned more in this 60 minutes than ever before.

If you missed yesterday's DearMYRTLE’s FACEBOOK Workshop Webinar© it is available to download from Lulu.
This is a recording of Myrt's live demo. Facebook has replaced Google as the busiest site on the web. Analysts say blogging is dead, in favor of Twitter and Facebook, at least for the younger set. Want to connect with family and friends using Facebook, but concerned about security issues? Myrt walks through Facebook settings, demonstrates FB groups and FB pages, wall postings, adding links, uploading photo and tagging them, chat, instant and private messages.
- Just want to thank you for sharing so much information. I set up a Facebook account so I could communicate with my daughters and see their pictures, etc., but have never known what to do with the people who "want to be my friend" so have ignored them. I see now that I can use Facebook to share genealogy information with several of my "cousins" and keep them separate from my family plus ignoring people is okay.
- Thanks for another informative webinar!
- Your relaxed presentation style makes it easy to learn. I'll sign up for the next webinar right away.
Happy family tree climbing!
Myrt :)
DearMYRTLE,
Your friend in genealogy.

- Excellent presentation! Very interesting looks for showcasing your family history! I have enjoyed every webinar I have attended so far! Very professional!
- Opened my eyes to lots of great ways to share with my family.
- I've never printed any of my charts...now when I look at them I can really see the holes! So much work to do! Thank you...I look forward to a new realm in my genealogical searching!
- Janet is a delightful person to listen to. I had never thought about charts, but now am interested in making one/some. I especially like the fact that you can make a working chart so you can see everyone you have and can try to fill in the blanks before ordering a really good chart that you want to frame.
- Now I really want a chart. Thanks for showing the couple bowtie!
- This webinar really got my research juices going as I want to get a chart made before our reunion in summer of 2012.
- Wonderful Webinar, Janet and Geoff. Many thanks for the precise and uplifting information and many beautiful chart examples displayed and discussed. Really enjoyed the question/answer segment too... always enlightening. It's years since I created A3 Wall Charts for family (the original of which has pride of place in my Office/Family room) so I'm inspired to get creating again!

Free webinar now online - "Watch Geoff Live: Adding a Death Certificate"
My boss called me right after today's impromptu webinar and said, "that was the best class you've ever given..." While I don't know about that, I am on cloud nine for how successful it was. I'm really excited for all of you to be able to watch it.
Just three hours before the event, I announced the impromptu mini-webinar on our Facebook page and blog, and couldn't believe that so many of you got the notice in time. The webinar turned out to be much more than a boring (I hope it wasn't boring anyways) class on typing in a death certificate. We discussed different websites, the Family History Library catalog, the source clipboard, how to analyze the evidence, and even how to organize your digital pictures - all with real documents using my personal database. It ended with a great question and answer session.

Thanks to all the live attendees for your participation. It was so fun to interact with you the way we did. And from your comments, it sounds like we should plan many more of this type of webinar:
- Enjoyed watching you work. It helped build my confidence in how I'm using Legacy, and I learned a few new tricks.
- Watching you go through the steps you use and commenting as you do each one showed me so much more than just how to add a death certificate.
- Very helpful to use real source (death certificate) and real family - and address all the problems that arise and watch the way you use Legacy and set up your files.
- Excellent-citing the sources properly is one area where I am always questioning whether I am doing it properly. There were lots of tips today that I didn't know previously, so I am excited about trying some new things.Thank you!!!
- I REALLY enjoyed this one more than almost all of the other ones. I learned more about how to input informtion (and what all information I have not been inputting that I should have) today than I have from any other source - videos, webinars, books, etc.
- It was very good. I think the things that didn't go so smoothly made it seem a lot more realistic than if it had been canned.
- THANK YOU, I have been hesitant to use the source writer. You explained it beautifully. I will be able to add sources now. This was a very informative webinar. I hope you will do more like this!
- This was a GREAT Webinar. I have the training CD's and watch them often. However, this live presentation is the most powerful learning tool you have provided.
