GeneaWebinars, Online Meetings and Hangouts Calendar

DearREADERS,
This is a note to explain the change in the title of the www.GeneaWebinars.com calendar:
from GeneaWebinars Calendar to:

GeneaWebinars, Online Meetings and Hangouts Calendar
This calendar provides information about how to attend genealogy-related online meetings, classes, hangouts, seminars and webinars, where there is a visual slide share and/or demo for attendees to view. Hosts may use a variety of platforms including Adobe Connect, AnyMeeting, Captera, Google Hangouts, GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar, Live Meeting, Skype, Web-Ex, Wiggio, to name a few.  There are currently over 35 with posting access to this calendar, and over 200 hours of scheduled instruction for genealogists wishing to hone their research skills during the coming year. If you'd like to join the calendar to post your organization's events, just drop a note to Myrt@DearMYRTLE.com.  If you wish to add this calendar to your list of Google Calendars, click the "+Google" button in the lower right portion of the calendar.

There has been much discussion elsewhere on the web about the variety of methods for sharing computer screens with genealogists across the web. Technology does march forward, and genealogists are among the early adopters of such technology.

COMMUNITY EFFORT
This calendar was created with the idea that each individual or organization hosting scheduled screen-share events could post his own event date, time, promo info and info for joining the event. This left me to maintain the calendar, resolve issues and such, without having to personally enter every online genealogy event personally.

THERE ARE OTHER GREAT MEETINGS
Currently there are other genealogy-related chats (not webinars) being held. Twitter chats like #GenChat, Genealogy Wise Chats, Second Life virtual chats just as those offered in Just Genealogy, and private typed chats like Pro-Gen Study Groups are not listed in this calendar. You will also not find references to online courses such as offered by Boston University, Family Tree  University or The National Institute for Genealogical Research as they have their own calendars. If you'd like to know about offline international, state and regional genealogy conferences see the valuable Conference Keeper.

GAINING ACCESS TO POST TO GENEAWEBINARS
If you'd like to join the GeneaWebinars Calendar to post the schedule of your organization's events, just drop Ol' Myrt a note Myrt@DearMYRTLE.com. Participants must be members in good standing in the genealogy community. This calendar reaches out to the genealogy community as a whole.

As my friend Tom Kemp says "Its a great time to be a genealogist!"

Happy family tree climbing!
Myrt     :)
