There is no question that African American genealogy research has many challenges. Many families are rooted within the system of American Slavery that ended officially in 1865 presenting many hurdles for descendants of those enslaved families. Whether your ancestors were enslaved, Free People of Color, or immigrants to this country, a handy set of tools and resources is needed. Gowj-100Wednesday - Researching Your New Zealand Ancestors by Jan Gow
You may not have a family member (sibling of your ancestor) who was born, married and died in New Zealand, but if you do - lots of footprints for you to find. If they had just one of these events in New Zealand -there is a gold mine waiting for you. Let's look at Passenger Lists, Civil Registration (our unique, amazing Historical B, D, M's), Church Records, Cemetery Records, Schools, Wills, Family Histories, Newspapers and others researching your family names.

Waltonrajia-100Friday - Researching Ancestors in the Era of Freedom by Angela Walton-Raji
