Organization for Success by Karen Clifford

If your idea of being organized is "the living room floor" then we "kindly" invite you to register for our free webinar presented by Karen Clifford, Organization for Success scheduled for Wednesday, August 3, 2011.

Webinar Description
Have you ever found a relative sharing erroneous data on your favorite research line? You're willing to take the time to politely point out those errors (to prevent others from being misled), but the complexity of how to explain your years of research settles upon your brain like a fog. You rally to the attempt, only to be thwarted by an inability to quickly locate the key supporting documents. After hours of effort, a numbing paralysis sets in at the realization that in order to adequately explain your conclusions, you will need to reconstruct your research process. The result - thousands of individual family relationships that could be explained just STOP, or end up in heaps of unsubstantiated opinion files on the Internet. People have asked me over the years, how I can research hundreds of families in the same week, return to a specific spot where I left off fifteen years ago on a client's line, and in a short review period take off again. The best way to prevent a wasteful repetition of work is by consistently using an organizational system that weaves together paper files, research notes, to do lists, evidence located, and conclusions reached. This incredibly simple, yet very successful organizational system has been successfully used by thousands of genealogists. With this system, the essential evidence and its supportive explanations are located in a safe retrievable place, available for constant re-examination. This frees the mind to focus on a new hypothesis, to creatively compile a life-time of work, or to calmly summarize your work for others. In fact, this organizational system makes the entire research process more efficient.

The live webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3, 2011, so register today to reserve your virtual seat. Registration is free but space is limited.

  • You have "solved" an avenue. I might use to try to connect our two families which we cannot documentally connect as the church records stop. The two progenitors (GGGgrandfathers) lived a few kilometers apart, with the same surname so we are "convinced" they might be "brothers".
  • Wonderful information about the dna tests and how they can help your genealogical searches. Thank you!
  • Very well presented; though the content was advanced, Ugo did an excellent job of explaining it in layman's terms.
  • Very good explanation of complicated subject. Also, good hints on testing to find information on collaterals so you know whom to test.
  • This webinar was absolutely fascinating.  I knew nothing about DNA (I have been avoiding it) and now I am wanting to jump right in.
  • I was mezmerized by this information. It was well presented and provided a wealth of information that was easily understood. Many thanks to Ugo Perego and his company for their service. I greatly enjoyed the webinar.

Using Federal Records without Visiting the Castle - Webinar, J. Mark Lowe - FREE

Title: Using Federal Records without Visiting the Castle
Date: Monday, August 8, 2011
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time
Sponsor: Friends of the National Archives-Southeast Region, Inc.

A castle is a fortress with great walls, extensive passages and interesting items stored in every passage. Many castles are surrounded by motes with a secured drawbridge entrance. Many genealogists consider the records held by the National Archives as inaccessible. They are planning for a "someday" trip to Washington, D.C. Until then, the dream of finding the illusive genealogical answer will remain within those Federal records.

Today, researchers enjoy access to more Federal records than ever before. The online finding aids and additional resources make these records available throughout the heartland. The National Archives has made extensive efforts to put the Federal records at the disposal of every researcher in the United States. The castle remains at the center of the Federal records, but the door and network access is open to more than ever before.

This free Webinar is sponsored by the Friends of the National Archives-Southeast Region, Inc.

  • These webinars are excellent. You learn so much more than just how to enter an obituary.
  • This was awesome -- the live entries make a tremendous difference, and to have Geoff including questions and comments from participants as he goes along is a real bonus. They are often questions that have been going through my mind, and if they haven't, then they are "oh, right, why didn't I think of that", as the would have occurred to me later when the chance was gone. Keep up the great work!
  • I have learned more from these webinars than I could learn from books in a year.
  • Please keep these "Geoff Live Webinars" coming. Geoff is great and learning how someone else uses Legacy has been very helpful for me. I have gotten some great ideas and some I am implementing!
  • Loved hearing about the different short cuts on the data page.
  • It is so informative-the way Geoff shares his entries. Each move gives me confidence to work on my genealogy. He takes away the fear of doing something wrong. I can relax a bit-I won't wreck everything with the touch of a key.
  • I loved today's webinar! I'm a visual learner and need to see it being done to understand how to use all the wonderful feature's of Legacy. Please have more of these impromptu sessions and I'll be there!
  • Geoff covered so many tips and tricks about Legacy that I did not know.
  • While manuals can provide information on how to use the software, it is always better to see it used in the real world.
