The site includes tools for learning and for reference. It is home to the world’s largest digitized collection of records and sources for our research. And all of this is free for everyone to use. We will explore each of the features that FamilySearch offers and we will hone in on how to dig through the site from a variety of entry points to find what we need.

It helps millions of visitors worldwide and has been featured in the media and diverse publications, including ABC News, NBC News, the BBC, National Public Radio, USA Today, Time, Newsweek, Parade Magazine, People Magazine, Wired, Ancestry Magazine, Family Tree Magazine, Family Chronicle, and Internet Genealogy magazines.

Cyndi, a genealogist for more than 39 years, has an expertise in using technology for genealogy. Additionally, her many active years in genealogy have also resulted in a specialty for research in the United States with particular focus on homesteaders, the Civil War, the Plains States, the Midwest, the Old Northwest, and beyond. Cyndi’s favorite topics bring together traditional methodology with organization, computers, software, and the Internet.

Cyndi is the recipient of the 2018 Society of Genealogists Prince Michael of Kent Award, the 2016 National Genealogical Society President’s Citation, and many other awards and honors. During the past 25 years she has served in several capacities for local, national, and professional genealogical organizations including the board of directors for the National Genealogical Society. Cyndi is an internationally-known guest lecturer, speaking at more than 200 genealogical society meetings, conferences, seminars, and webinars (http://www.CyndisList.com/speaking-calendar/). She is the coordinator for the technology course at the Genealogical Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP). She has lectured for GRIP, SLIG, GENTECH, Brigham Young University, the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the National Genealogical Society, the American Library Association, and numerous state and local genealogical societies and libraries in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Cyndi has authored numerous articles and three books. She has attended dozens of conferences and institutes over the past 30 years including the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG), the Genealogical Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP), the National Institute on Genealogical Research (NIGR), and she has completed the ProGen Study Group #24.

Cyndi is member of several genealogical organizations and she is a life member of the National Genealogical Society, the Virginia Genealogical Society, the Ohio Genealogical Society, and the Indiana Genealogical Society. Before her life on the Internet, Cyndi worked as an operations officer and an international banker specializing in foreign exchange and computer networks. Cyndi, her mother, and two Boston Terriers live in Edgewood, Washington.
